Family says Delta employees tied woman with MS to wheelchair

Enviado há

Family of a woman with multiple sclerosis are speaking out after they say Delta employees bound her to a wheelchair with a blanket hard enough that it left bruises. Maria Saliagas needs special straps to help her sit up straight during flights, so her son, Nathan Saliagas, got in touch with the airline to make arrangements before Saliagas’ annual trip from Atlanta to Europe, according to WSB-TV. I heard this overnight and couldn't believe the callousnous of the Delta agents treatment.

I thought so at first but then the same could have happened on a public bus! If special requirements and apparatus are involved with this type of travel for this individual then more thought and preparation needs to be done by the son or family. Unfortunate but true. The same applies to to families travelling with a wheelchair bound passenger, they pile on all the cabin baggage onto the lap of the person in the wheelchair and walk empty handed to the gate, meanwhile the assist agent has to push all this bloody weight all over the terminal!

God Bless British Air. When I needed help with a wheelchair, they were wonderful. I was on an A380, and that international terminal at Heathrow is literally miles from passport control. They have a special lounge for all special needs passengers. You're assigned your own attendant who makes sure you get to your flight in time. They also have dedicated handicap bathrooms there. My return to SFO was less satisfactory, but that had more to do with the 2.5 hour wait for SFO passport control. And all I had to do to get help from BA was fill out an on-line form. US carriers could learn a thing or two.
