AIRCRAFT,JUST LIKE AN AUTOMOBILE AND A LOT OF MECHNICAL THINGS,ARE NOT COMPOSED /COMPRISED OF PIECES AND PARTS FROM JUST ONE MANUFACTURER..THIS SORT OF ISSUE HAS OCCURRED BEFORE ON VARIOUS AIRCRAFT,WHERE A PIECE OF THE METAL "WEB" INSIDE THE ENGINE HAS BROKEN OFF AND PUNCTURED THE FUSELAGE OR THE ENGINE ITSELF..THIS SHOWS MORE OF A LACK OF MECHANICAL INSPECTION OF THE AIRCRAFT AND THE ENGINES BY UNITED AIRLINES..IT ALSO MIGHT BE POINTED OUT HOW OLD THE AIRCRAFT IS, HOW MANY FRAME HOURS IT HAS,AND IF THERE HAD BEEN A RECENT INSPECTION BY UNITED MECHANICS OF THAT PARTICULAR PLANE...BOEING IS GETTING A LOT OF FLACK LATELY, AND SOME OF IT IS DESERVED,BUT THIS IS NOT A BOEING ISSUE,AND AN ENGINE WITHOUT MAINTNENCE NOR INSPECTION,OR OVERLOOKING "SMALL" ISSUES,WHETHER ITS A CAR OR A PLANE,WILLBREAK OR MALFUNCTION..THEY ARE NOT MADE TO BER PERMANENT...

that was a scary episode and seeing the photos taken by a passenger made it real!kudos to the pilots by the way..this reminded me of incidents several years back with dc 10 aircraft, when cargo doors would fly open and things would be sucked out (the incident of a coffin landing in a cornfield),and sadly, the photos of an american airlines dc 10 just after takeoff in chicago, having an entire engine beak loose and fall from the plane, causing it to crash...airplanes afer all ar merely metal tubes with wings and engines, and despite safety checks and maintentance, they do have probelms, some more serious than others...it is wnderful the pland was able to be turened back towrds the den airport and land safely!

it is too bad the pilot ,as reported, was in a hurry to get mr bryant and his group to the basketball competition, which, had they driven instead (it was not that far a trip)they would have been late, but alive..when this happened the pilot was said to have been very responsible and qualified, but the company for which he worked did not provide the proper equipment on the helicopters for the type of weather he encountered..i do know if you have flown in or around the california coast you know about mountains and about fog..

i remember both flying on those and working with them..we always had issues with getting a jetbridge up to the door (did not use external stairs)as the jetbridges had to be really ajdusted both up/down and side to side to fit and we had to use a little tiny "ramplet bridge" as well..

FLORIDA USED TO HAVE THE PHRASE ATTACHED TO ITS NAME AS "THE LAND OF THE NEWLY WED AND THE NEWLY DEAD"!!THAT IS BECAUSE OF ITS TOURIST ATTRACTIONS LIKE DISNEY WORLD,THE CRUISE TERMINALS IN FT LAUDERDALE AND MIAMI,THE BEACHES AND THE "NIGHT LIFE" IN MIAMI CLUBS..AS FAR AS THE OTHER TITLE,FLORIDA HAS A HUGE NUMBER OF RETIREES WELL OVER 65 WITH TOWNEHOMES AND CONDOS AND IN RETIREMENT FACILITIES IN THE AGE BRACKET OVER 65...KEEP IN MIND AT THE BEGINNING OF THE PANDEMIC LAST YEAR WHEN THINGS WERE REALLY BAD IN NEW YORK,THE STATE OF FLORIDA WAS DISCOURAGING THE "SNOWBIRD" TRAVEL FROM NEW YORK DOWN TO FLORIDA DESTINATIONS TO AVOID SPREADING IT..WHAT A DIFFERENCE A YEAR MAKES IN THAT REGARD!!

any job, whether its a pilots position or the customer service agent ,is only as valuable to a company as the needs of the company require..for years pilots have been held in high esteem because of the training required for their jobs, and they have been compensated well for it..the airline industry has had many good years this past decade, and when those planes can return to the skies with full loads of passengers again or cargo, the jobs will return as well..
