Ryanair Ends Talks for Follow-On Boeing Max Order Over Pricing

Ryanair Holdings Plc ended negotiations with U.S. planemaker Boeing Co. for a follow-on order for Max-10 aircraft after failing to agree on pricing. Ryanair has 210 Max jets on order, with plans to take delivery over the next five years. The airline said Monday that it had also been discussing a large purchase of the higher-capacity Max-10. About 95% of the current Ryanair fleet consists of 737s, and that’s before the delivery of the 210 MAXs they have on order. They were trying to squeeze Boeing hard on price by leaning on the crashes and groundings, but they are unlikely to make a major change in their fleet structure by adding more A32x or A220 aircraft — they will eventually come back and pay what Boeing is asking.

According to Airfleets, about 100% of Ryanair's fleet are 737's of varying models. The vast majority are 738's. 299 of them across their various brands. One 737-7, and 7 737-MAX 8.

Their 320's (only 2 of them) left in 2015.

like southwest airlines, ryanair is a creative captive of the boeing company and its 737 iterations. I liked the idea of southwest acquiring 250 or more airbus 220's and work the next step down of destination point to points. But they won't, i suspect, because of the degree of difficulty in addding lots of planes not boeing. Ryanair is that way too, i suspect, and becaue the dash-10 max would be a really excellent addition, an aggreement will happen, and puffed-up posturing to the contrary will vanish.As to what O Leary will agree to pay, well that will be fun to watch from the sidelines

other than posturing for sport, there is no reason for a deal for max-10 aircraft not to be struck. THe extra capacity speaks for itself. THe cost of setting infrastructure for another manufacturers aircraft is a start-up cost with large numbers, without large benefits.
