Airbus to cram more seats into A380 superjumbo

Enviado há

(CNN) -- It's already capable of carrying more passengers than any other commercial aircraft, but the Airbus A380 could be about to squeeze in a few extra. In a move that adds a dose of economic reality to airline dreams of luxuriously pimped superjumbos, the plane's manufacturer says that next week it will unveil a new 11-seat-row economy-class configuration. I'd love to see the interior designers, seat manufacturers and airline executives do a long haul trip in the back of the aircraft in the middle seats of a five in a block configuration and then turn around to state that all economy/coach seats are perfectly suited to long hauls. Try 16 hours LAX to YSSY & see how you feel after that gentlemen !!

No thanks.... being no fan of the A380 to begin with, there will be even less reasons to fly it going forward. For me, I would book the 787 or a 777 before booking any long haul AB.

Wait until Michael O'Leary configures one of these for Ryanair.....over 1,000 seats!...wait....make that 500 seats, and 3,000 straps for the standing room only section.

Speaking from an Australian POV, Qantas CEO has recently suggested that in essence, purchasing the A380s was a financial blunder. The long haul twin jets, 777-ER would have been a better fit, but were not on the market when Qantas placed the order for the A380s in 2000. Since then, the NextGen aircraft such as the 787-9 have burst on the scene with even better fuel economy etc than the 777-ER and will most likely be the future replacement for the 747-400s. Air New Zealand is the launch customer for the 787-9 so let's hope Qantas follow their lead.

Qantas need to avoid A380s from now on because I know I do. I'll pick and chose my flights according to the aircraft assigned to that route. Give me the 747-400 any day. Workhorse for many airlines and just a beautiful, majestic lady of the skies.

So let Airbus cram more seats in the A380.... I mean what's a few more seats anyway, she already looks obese.
