Fatally Flawed Flight Training: When The Instructor Is A Hazard

Enviado há

In-depth analysis of a tragic training accident. A Beech B-60 Duke (N39AG) was destroyed and its two occupants killed on March 4, 2017, about 1330 EST undertaking what should have been a safety refresher. The airplane spiraled out of control, crashed and burned during stall recovery practice near Duette, Florida. On board were an experienced private-pilot owner and a 20,900-hr. flight instructor who seems to have been directing non-standard and unsafe stall recovery practices. (aviationweek.com) Mais...

Not the first twin to crash during instruction has happened several times while doing engine out practice. Know of one on downwind when the instructor pulled and engine out simulation killing both in the crash.

I don't know if it was a misprint, but the article claimed the IP was 90 years of age. I guess some guys don't know when to quit but this IP figured it out the hard way. And for you piston twin guys, know what VMCA means and when it exceeds stall speed for the configuration the only way to safely conduct the maneuver is to use reduced thrust on the good engine. Otherwise the aircraft will depart the maneuver in a roll before the stall every time.
