Earthquake in Nepal: Air India, IndiGo, SpiceJet, others put flights to Kathmandu airport on hold
Flights to Kathmandu from India were hit today after a powerful earthquake rocked Nepal with most of the airlines including Air India, IndiGo, Spicejet and Jet Airways cancelling or putting on hold their operations due to closure of the ruway at the Tribhuvan International airport for a few hours. This is a single runway airport with no ILS. If a large relief operation is to be mounted, it will need help like the US government provided after the Haiti disaster. They will need teams to unload the aid and move it off site in order to turn the aircraft around as they have limited parking. Remember the Turkish Airline 330 that shut the whole place down a few weeks back.
