In July we sent ZA102 out to Guam from Everett, it was a 10+ hour ride. Two weeks later it went back home, this time on an extended endurance flight - full of fuel and minimal extra weight. Total time for that was 18 hours 20 minutes, if I recall.

While we were there ZA002 flew two out and back flights between Seattle and Guam to support us.

CYKA is home to Kelowna Flightcraft. They do specialized instrumentation work for Boeing. Perhaps this is a reason that they landed in Kelowna. Wish I had been there to see the Dreamliner up close and personal

I should have clarified. This was the first REVENUE 787 long haul flight to Europe.

Europe's not really a long haul. Wouldn't the first long haul have been the ANA delivery flight???

Maybe more than an 8 hour flight

That flight in the article was from Japan to Germany. I was referring to flights from the US to Europe not really being long-haul. Like I said up above, the first long one may have been the ANA delivery flight...

Ok, happy that you can read between the lines. I really did think he meant, "1st <meaning first, as in none other before> 787 flight with passengers just landed 10:39pm EST". Oh well:)

I must be referring to a different tail than this one, but I know a brand new tail flew from KBFI-CYKA (kamloops), and then onward to EGLL. Would CYKA-EGLL be considered the first long-haul flight for this tail, despite not being a revenue flight?

Curious what they got out of such a short initial leg? There isn't much to see in CYKA. Enlighten me.

Non-US airlines sometimes take delivery in Canada to reduce or avoid US taxes. Possibly the reason here. A few percent savings on $100M is a lot!!

For passenger service, it is but the longest flight by it was from Boeing Field to Dubai as BOE787.
