Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress (N5017N)
The EAA's Boeing B-17G Flying Fortress "Aluminum Overcast" departing Runway 20 at Folsom Field, Cullman Regional Airport, AL, November 5, 2016.
Comments
I went for a press ride in "Aluminum Overcast" with Bud Anderson and Chuck Yeager taking turns at the controls. I'll remember that forever.
Legend Fortress
Built like a navy battleship.
This airplane recently came to my local airport. Looking carefully, I noticed placards indicating the horizontal stabilizer was made by Lockheed. I inquired and was surprised to find that the whole thing was made by Lockheed! Boeing indeed!
I believe I heard that there are no Boeing built B-17s operational now. But remember, everybody built planes during the war. Many B-24s were built by Ford.
Better flying by Frigidaire!
