The A-10 is the closes thing there is to a flying tank. It is the best close-air-support aircraft ever designed and built. As long as there is ground combat, the Air Force / Military should never retire this aircraft. As long as our troops are fighting anywhere in the world, this aircraft should be there supporting them.

Great shot of a great lifesaving bird! Used to see them being manually pushed across State Route 24 (Conklin Ave.) at the Fairchild Republic factory in Farmingdale, Long Island (north end of KFRG). The assembly shop was on the south side of the road, the paint shop on the north. Pretty cool actually; they would just manually push and pull across the road with an electric hand tug while stopping traffic by simply having one worker hold traffic with hand signals!

By far - my favorite aircraft. Got misnamed the 'warthog' because it is said to be ugly, not sure what they are looking at... This & the Blackbird (SR-71) are, IMNSHO, the most beautiful aircraft I have ever seen.

Failure of the USAF to appreciate the classic nature of this aircraft is a powerful indicator of how WRONG it was to forbid fixed wing acft in the U.S. ARMY!!! BTW I am a combat vet of the 1st Avn Bgde USA.
