Lockheed F-35C (A35001)

AUSSIE AUSSIE GOOD ON THE RAAF
That forward opening canopy takes some getting used to. Very unusual. Are there any other front line fighters that are similarly equipped? Why would they do that?
Alan Hume... another with a front hinged canopy that comes to mind is the MiG-21, excepting later variants that hinged at the side. As to "why" regarding the Lockheed Martin F-35C, this design feature might have been included to better shield the instrument panel and avionics, etc., from rain during inclement weather as a pilot is boarding or exiting the aircraft.
