Does anyone know what the object is on the windshield?
@Gavin Hughes: I believe it is an external HUD but I'm not 100% sure.

Guys, any HUD device would be installed inside the windshield, never outside.
The device is a hot plate, electrically heated so you can see out a portion of the windshield in icing conditions.

That is a heated plate for winter ops. Prior to TKS all Caravans operating in icing conditions were required to have them.
