McDonnell Douglas DC-10 (N304FE)
This spotting location provides a "Maho Beach-style" thrill because the aircraft landing on RTIA's runway 16R pass overhead so low. This click captured FDX's N304FE completing the first half of the daily morning KMEM-KRNO-KMEM round trip.

Less than eight hours after this photo was taken, a single engine Beechcraft was at this exact same point in its approach to Reno Tahoe International when it suddenly rolled over and impacted into a trailer park. No homes were directly hit, but four were destroyed by fire when the Beechcraft exploded on impact. Very sadly, neither of the occupants of the Beechcraft survived.
The location I was in when I snapped this picture of N304FE only eight hours earlier as it is passing over the trailer park is adjacent to, and less than 200 yards south of, the crash site. Yesterday, the area was cordoned off while NTSB personnel conducted their investigation into the tragic crash.

Excellent shot, Gary!
Nice shot!
This is one of my favorite angles Gary. I appreciate how you shoot from all different angles, air and ground. Great work again! 5* shot.
Thank you, Dwight, Roy, and Dave. When I took this, I was practicing for the same type click of Air Force One. Due to the terrible crash that occurred at this same spot later in the day that encompassed this spotting position, the area was closed off so I had to find another place. I did, and my snaps came out fantastically, but the crash put an atmosphere of sadness over the past three days of activity.
I'm glad to be home today. Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday ... each day I was out from 5:30 AM to 7:45 PM. But it was worth the exhaustion. When the end of October comes around, I'll be sending pics that you guys will truly love.

Super photo Gary!
