Unknown/Generic Undesignated (59-0483) - This weather-weary stick-mounted McDonnell Douglas RF-101B Voodoo (59-0483) being displayed near the HQ building of the NevANG base is obviously desperate for new paint. Rumor has it that there will be an Open House event here next year. If so, let's hope this old vet gets a new uniform prior to the OH.br /45v -- 45m // 65v -- 59m

The harsh impact of the Nevada desert sun is plainly obvious here as the paint is faded and blistered. However, despite how it appears at first glance, there is also a very obvious indicator that this old ex-Nevada ANG recon Voodoo is treated with respect. And that indicator is actually apparent by the thing that is NOT seen here on this jet. Budget constraints are certainly the primary reason why this RF-101 cannot be repainted annually and it doesn't take very long for the sun blazing down during a hot Nevada high desert summer to fade the paint, and the troops of the NevANG can't do very much about it if the $$ isn't available to renew the camouflage uni. But ... they can and they DO make certain it gets washed off very, very regularly. The grounds were spotlessly manicured and there was not even one bird "deposit" anywhere on this old retired warrior. (* And a PS - the NevANG has two of its ex-warbirds on display - there is a Phantom gate guard too - thus; the money to repaint them has to be divvied up. And no doubt the Phantom is the priority because it is right at the entrance gate. So this Voodoo probably has to "wait its turn." *)
