The F4 was a brute of a fighter in her day. The Navy, Marines and the Air Force all used the F4 at the same time, that says something about the plane.
I saw the Thunderbirds fly an air show with them once.

Lovely shot Dan!
The great old timer Phanton.
Back in the 60s my job frequently took me to MCAS Cherry Point. While there I frequented a little bar that was right at the end of the runway. After a few beers we'd hear the F4s coming in and would run outside to watch them land. There is nothing like looking up at an F4 that is about 100 feet over your head, coming in for a landing. The beer helped I'm sure.
Hearing that eerie moan when they cycled thru the overhead was a big thrill for me. I also saw them perform as T-Birds (multiple times, doing crowd-control duties as a CAP cadet). Probably did permanent damage to my hearing.
My father was an original c-130 pilot for the Blue Angels when they flew the F-4. Simply Awesome aircraft!
Great shot of an awesome hero Dan
