Avro 683 Lancaster (F-PBND)
Comments
The last time I saw Lancaster 683 it was still in the UK Imperial war museum & had 4 engines. Could it be that the Russian jamming has changed its image profile?
Great camoflage! Makes that Avro 683 Lancaster look just like a Lancair 360 (ICAO code LNC2).
Gorgeous airplane! But doesn't look a bit like the Lancs my dad flew in his second tour of operations in RCAF 431 Squadron (I like to think of Dad as one of the original Snowbirds) from January 1945. Very stealthy! For the history buffs among us, dad flew to Halifax after VE day intending to be a part of Tiger Force, a remarkably bad idea to put fuel tanks atop the fuselage of Lancasters to provide the range to bomb Japan. Some of us feel very lucky that Project Manhattan came along and stopped Tiger Force. Warmest regards to fellow flightaware feeders.
this is the Lancaster model used for observations. It had a limited bomb load.

???????????????????????
Indianapolis 500 pace plane?
I know the Lancaster carried a larger bomb load than the B-17 my brother piloted in WWII, but I wonder where they put them ??
