That's quite an interesting configuration for that aircraft.

Well, from looking at the thumbnail with my old eyes I was expecting to see an Old Ford Tri-motor. That is a first aircraft for me. Thanks for sharing.

Most excellent job on catching this aircraft. Does anyone know the purpose of the black stripe behind the cockpit area? On about 80% of photos of this aircraft there is the same black stripe (in averring lengths). If I were to take a guess, I'd have to say it's an attempt to preserve the paint and/or fuselage from prop debris. In so many of the photos it appears to be a gap in the fuselage.

To Douglas Miles : Note that many "forty" have black stripes behind the cockpit, which are rubber bands. More precisely: all aircraft have them, but those with visible stripes have them "admitted". The reason is beautiful to see after we stripped "our" Turbolet of all coats of paint: the incriminated place behind the cabin is "bombarded" by flying ice fragments during the de-icing of the propeller and its launch. And that such a piece of ice "fired" from a propeller has some speed, certainly does not need to be emphasized. The rubber belt thus protects the hull from these "projectiles", which would sooner or later break its protective layer and open the way for corrosion.

Is the black stripe duct tape? Just kidding.
