There is nothing available that can really replace this DHC5 Buffalo, built in 1966.

Chris Robey: They have a special place in my heart as my father used to work on these, in fact, on this very plane. He was an AME stationed at CFB Trenton, as well as other Canadian bases throughout Canada and overseas (He also worked on the DHC-4 Caribou). Thank you for pointing out the often more common name "DHC-5" whereas I posted it as CC-115. Both are correct I believe and your comment is very much appreciated. Cheers!

Cheers Dave! The RAAF in Australia operated a couple of squadrons of the DHC4 Caribou very successfully from about 1964 until 2009. But they never operated the Buffalo, unfortunately. There are now lots of DHC4's preserved in museums around the country, including a couple that are flyable.

Chris/Dave, thank you both for your comments. Great History here. Cheers all around.

Chris Robey: Thank You for the additional information. We live just down the road from the RCAF museum (Trenton, Ontario) and they have just recently added a Buffalo to their outdoor static display but no Caribou... yet! It's always nice to hear what is happening in other countries with these amazing aircraft.

Great aircraft! Beautifully captured.

Lot of these made "Air Supply" possible in 'Nam. Only problem is they often had damage from bird strikes from the REAR!!

LMAO, Jim Smith.

About 1,000 hours of Caribou time. Would have loved to fly this beauty!

Serge Loth: Thank you for the great comment and Vive la France!
Trennor Turcotte: I am a huge fan as well, and thank you!
Frank Theriault: Great aircraft indeed and thank you for the kind words.
Jim Smith: Lol... I love your comment!!
dicky11: I second that!
David Hume: Wow, that is awesome. No doubt, it would have been an easy transition given your experience!

Chris Robey, so you don't think the C-27 Spartan is a worthy replacement of the Caribou here in Oz?
CHRIS ROBEY
Hi Alan, I don't think that the Spartan has the same STOL capability as the Buffalo. Other than that, it is a very capable a/c with a greater payload than the Buffalo.
