The cold war ended decades ago but the cold-war mutually-assured destruction mentality never skipped a beat. It's not surprising, just disappointing.

Trucks full of money destined for the military will not be effective against asymmetric warfare. Old school thinking. China appears to believe that the path to success is to use the money to economically control matters. Silk-Road anybody?

Spending lots of money on defense is hard to take, but changing the spoken language to Russian, Chinese, or Korean would be much harder I think?

We spend more than 3x any other country. If we were to slash our military budget *in half* we'd still be spending 50% more than our nearest rival China.
