Last count there were 10 C-5's parked wing-to-wing at Stewart Int'l Airport- Air National Guard facility- Newberg,NY. "The 105th Airlift Wing's mission is to provide peacetime and wartime inter-theater airlift operations using the C-5A “Galaxy” cargo aircraft." One hangar has an actual tail section of a C-5A protruding from the exterior wall, for show,of course. It's totally eye-catching.

They fly to KBGR once or twice a week to do touch and go runs with them. It's quite a sight to see such a huge plane seeming to fly over about as fast as I can run.

i live in dayton and i saw T-1 land here, and it has been all over the skywrighter newspaper my dad works for the UASAF so he gets that paper every now and again. the T-1 is now sitting outside the restoration hanger approx. a mile from the main museum the restoration hanger also holds the famous "Memphis Belle" which is nearing completion.

It's only a test prototype - they're not retiring the active fleet. Although, that's probably quite a juicy cost-cutting initiative certain politicians would drool over, don't think that politicians won't stoop to rolling airplanes straight off the production line into the scrapheap!

Only 21 years old and they're retiring it? Wow! Seems crazy to me, especially after seeing the C-141 go on for years and years. In fact, I was in elementary school at Travis AFB when the first C-141's flew over before landing on their delivery flight in 1965 or so. I cannot believe that the C-17 didn't stick around a little longer.

That boggles my mind that they're already retiring C-17's. They still have C-5's, don't they?

They are keeping the later model C-5's, but they have either retired or in process of retiring the original A models.
