See lower fuel prices at nearby FBOs on FlightAware

Enviado há

When displaying FBO fuel prices on FlightAware, we now search nearby airports and show prices at FBOs that have lower prices. Unlike sites like AirNav.com that only show nearby FBOs if the FBOs pay AirNav -- this is another FREE, unbiased, and 100% comprehensive feature from FlightAware for the pilot community. Enjoy! Uh, I had no idea this existed on Flightaware....I guess I never noticed the big VIEW INFO button on airport tracker. Anyway....this is way better than any other site out there for FBO prices etc...

So really this just shows lower prices, not all other FBOs in a certain radius? After looking at a couple of airports, it also doesn't seem to take into account for the fact that some airports have a lower 100LL charge for Self Service pumps. Maybe I've just never used FA for flight planning so I'm not understanding the reasoning for doing it this way. Benefiting my airport right now though, so I shouldn't complain too much for this format!

Currently, it shows FBOs nearby that have a lower price for 100LL FS or JetA FS. If JetA is cheaper but 100LL isn't, the FBO will be listed but the 100LL option isn't displayed.

I think the radius and number of FBOs listed is variable, but it's around 30 miles and 10 at the most.

You raise a good point, I don't think the SS option is addressed, but I'll make sure it's implemented in the next day or two. This system is a new feature that's still in development, so your feedback is appreciated and it will only get better!

Many of the FBOs that surround ours have become Sponsor owned & operated. I think this is a huge thing that most people in the aviation world aren't understanding. Where it used to be Mom & Pop Shops, now it's a local municipality often struggling to keep the doors open. With dwindling staff, self-serve is a way more attractive option for many of these operations. I'm fortunate to work for an authority and local municipality that sees the benefit of having staff here...others aren't so lucky. Personally, our FBO doesn't differentiate...you pay one low price either way whether we provide the service or you do it yourself. Others around us don't though and it looks like they are taking the hit for it. But like I said, it's benefiting me more now with the way this is laid out!

I might also offer that it could be beneficial to insert some sort of a pricing threshold. For example, if the FBO is within a certain radius and is only off +/- let's say $.05, someone might be inclined to push forward a few more miles to an airfield if it's only going to cost them a few more pennies on the dollar. Pricing alone does not dictate my flight planning. If I can stretch a leg a little further, I'll pay a little more...as long as it's not astronomically more! At least with that I might see an FBO that before I might not have.

EXCELLENT..........Since I have a B36tc with 110 gal.tanks, I no longer have to tanker fuel from 200 miles away.

I only have 98 gal , but since I am so much faster I don't have to tanker. Lol

So, OK....I've been cogitating about your remark for a day, and even though this forum isn't the correct one to debate stuff like this, I have TO ASK!!! I flight plan @ 185 knots. You're faster??? Ok, what do you have? A turbo twin? Turbo Cirrus (I hope not, can't understand why anyone would buy an airplane with a parachute)...This B36 has the factory turbo removed, and the Turbo Alley system installed. I think it goes like hell, especially at altitude...so tell me, tell me.........

Just a friendly jest. . I got a Columbia 400. The company I was a partner in owned the very first production 400. We sold it in 08 I believe. Bought my own last fall. Still getting used to the g1000 though. Way different from the avidyne. Haven't flown too much yet as I retired end of year and busy cleaning up business. I can do 200kts or more at any altitude if I want to feed it 25/26 gal/ hr. or slow down to 180 and save 8 gal/ hr. Book says 235 at fl250. Ain't been there in either plane/ ain't wearing no mask. Lol

Nice feature, but still, I think, a work in progress. The lowest price on 100LL in my area is at the closest neighboring airport (47N), but when I checked my home airport (39N) it didn't list the airport with the cheapest gas. I then looked for the airport with the cheapest gas, and it was in the Flightaware system, and its low price for 100LL was there and accurate. So the system looks like it needs some work.

Good catch -- this was a bug affecting airports within 10 miles. We've fixed it and I've verified that 47N shows up when looking at 39N.

Thanks!

Great feature. How do we know for certain that the fuel prices are current? Is there a date stamp somewhere to confirm when the data was added for a particular FBO? tx

Click on the FBO name and at the bottom of the page, it'll say something like:

Data was last collected by a FlightAware staff member on 2013-Mar-14 03:59PM.
