Ok so what I don't understand is why don't the airlines start equipping the turbines with blades so as to have a greater chance of avoiding this? I remember a long time ago when I watched a special on the 777 and they were testing its bird strike tolerance by throwing dead birds at the spinning engines which had blades on the turbines and it worked great. This aircraft did have the spirals already but why not improve the safety a bit?

I was at Kennedy Airport and actually saw the flames shooting out of the back of the engine. Interesting sight, scary for the ones on board. People in the terminal were wondering what was happening because the plane disappeared behind terminal 1. Luckily the pilots did a good job.

Actually thats the picture of the 767 from Wednesday. They had an emergency landing because the rear right tire blew out during take off from Paris.

I wasn't disputing the fact that a 757 was on the flight and FA sowed it to be. I just knew that pic wasn't a 757.lol. Tks for clearing that up.

757s must be a robust frame to be able to land "heavy" with out dumping any fuel!

Most can land heavy Mark if needed, but it definitely takes some extra finesse on the front end, especially unexpected. Probably beefed up, but plenty of fuel on board is SOP for AF One

About the picture I posted above: I just arrived at Delta lounge when a colleague pointed this out.
I could not find any record for another incident at JFK on Wed. 18th involving a Delta flight do I assumed that this aircraft was flight 1603.
I do have other pictures but none one them is good enough to identify the aircraft registration # for sure... What I could read on the picture is N180DN but this does not seem to match : N180DN is supposed to be a 767-200. Let me know if you want me to post the tail section in original resolution :)

Anyway, great job from Captain, First Officer and ATC in charge !

If you look at the flap design it is a 757, a 767 has a single element flap and a 757 is a double element flap. Both are a 757.

We were all looking at 2 different pictures. The one with the story was a 767 and it was from an EMER. the day before. The one in the link was clearly a 757. That flight is a 757 most every day.

Not from the picture. The FlightAware info said it was a 757. I was told it was ship 6806 and have a list of the ship numbers. Either the info given to me was wrong or that is the wrong aircraft. The photo is a 767. It has a tail skid. 757's don't have tail skids.

Indhira posted the wrong photo. The photo is a 767 from the day before. The bird strike was a 757 but it is not pictured

The area around JFK is a bird sanctuary, they are asking for trouble do away with the sanctuary, or allow hunting to reduce the goose population.

Sorry no if ands or buts but this is 100% a 767 with winglets. nose gear is to short for a 757 and this one is to fat.
