Air France-KLM To Stop Philippine Operations Due To Taxes‎

For the past couple of years, Air France-KLM country manager, Cees Ursem has been trying to appeal the removal of common carriers tax and the gross Philippine billings tax that they have been paying for their cargo and passenger operations in the country. After getting no action, even just formal talks about the issue, from the government, Ursem has finally decided that he will be ceasing operations of Air France-KLM beginning April 2012. The unspoken aspect is what will happen with FedEx? They have a huge facility in the old Subic Bay facility where jobs were scarce after the Navy left. Don't be surprised if they look to their options, Hong Kong being at the top of that list where they already have substantial presence and lots of reserve capacity.
