@ Wayne Bookout --

Traditionally the very shallow V shape formed by the port and starboard wings, as you know, was called 'dihedral' -- what do you call this? Maybe 'Uhedral?'

I don't suppose you have yet been in the left seat of this new Boeing, have you?

Be careful.

Beautiful but I wonder why the APU would be running for most of the shots? You can see the inlet open

A very nice looking jet indeed. Far nicer than... ahem... my one. Shame they were running the APU during the filming though. Would have looked just a *little* cleaner if it was all tucked away.

Nice way to start the day

That's some dihedral!

A credit to American design and engineering via Boeing! But, where are the emergency overawing exits? Are all exits now using door slides? This is a different world from the DC-6/7 days for certain!

Wish I hadn't had to retire!

She certainly is a wonderful looking aircraft snd I love Boeing's built-in safety feature....if both engines fail she just flaps her wings like a bird !!

Do think that the way the wings bend up a lot will possibly be a concern for some passengers as it looks on occasions as if they are going to meet above the plane, and I assume that it is not supposed to be a folding wing navy jet!

Clay Lacy has always done beautiful work doing all the air commercials! Its too bad ANA had to put the first "ding" on her nacelle!!

Very touching. The wing scares the crap out of me though.

100% with you. Looks 'too' flexible.

Mmmm, indeed, it is scary for several reasons. Bet it stalls so smoothly at FL400, you cannot even tell you are falling.

Stunning aircraft! Nice curves.

I like the one comment on youtube, "Don't you think the TCAS would be going crazy?" HAHA

The wing sweep to a tip reminds me of a Purple Martin. They too are efficient flyers over long distances.

As a life-long pilot from a family of pilots, my mind races to see all sorts of advantages to this "new" technology; BUT, it still is kinda scary to watch !

Bet it is even more scary to watch from inside the ship !

Oh well, we'll get used to this, too.................

its a old technoigy, but the B-52 WING goes thru a + - 7ft rotation when in flight. just a thought.

Saw the concern over the flex, but like you I thought of the oldest airframe in the Air Force. My concern is that it's wing loading + airfoil + sweep will make for some challenging stall characteristics, particularly at altitude.
But it is beautiful and fast.

Then there was the L-188 Electra II which had almost no flex. hard riding ol' bronc, especially up front. Stiff gear, too.

You have to admit Boeing just does not build a great plane, they build great planes that look great too. The 787 looks better in the air than it does on the ground and that is saying a lot. All cleaned up a flying high; WOW.

Forgive the question and the terminology, but why the scalloped edges around the engine cowlings?

Mark Duell 0
The chevrons increase the effective mixing annulus between the bypass air and ambient air, reducing noise which can be traded for a saving on insulation weight.

Thanks. I actually get it.
