Submitted
Two Delta Air Lines regional jets collided at low speeds while taxiing Wednesday evening at LaGuardia Airport, according to the airline. Endeavor flight 5155 was taxiing for departure when its wing made contact with the fuselage of Endeavor flight 5047 as it was taxiing to its gate after arriving, the airline said when releasing preliminary information. With what appears to be increasing reports of actual hits and near misses, it appears as if US airports are becoming increasingly unsafe. Are years of neglect and abuse over equipment and staff respectively finally coming home to roost? The incidents remain a small fraction of total flight activity, but over time that fraction should be decreasing, not increasing. At what point does one advise the traveling public that they are not as safe as they think they are? Are successive Administrations playing roulette with airport safety?

Although incidents remain a small fraction of total flight time we have to remember with aircraft it only takes one small mistake to end up with a disaster. This time only one minor injury, the LAX incident fortunately had no injuries but a trend is happening that shows there is something wrong with our airports, ATCs and or flight crews. If this trend continues there will be fatalities.

Juan Brown (@blancolirio) has a great video analyzing the incident, including the aircraft conversations with ground ATC. The NTSB will definitely come out with recommendations to ATC to issue clearer instructions. Not sure you can really blame the pilots 100% here although someone wasn't paying attention in the cockpit.

Most drivers do this without any incidents but it only takes one idiot…

Two flight crews just lost their chance for promotion to the majors.

I disagree... The A/C that was Hit from Behind will be the one in big trouble... the 1 in front was just a victim the way it looks! Watch the video at about 21 seconds... 1 was not moving! - Watch the video - The animation gives a better perspective.

I'm confused. Who got hit from behind?

You're correct in that no one got hit from behind. It was a slap in the face from 5047 on 5155, which apparently did not hold.

Ugh,, I typo'd... "From Behind" was not supposed to in there!

Sounds like someone got a little to close! Wonder who is going to have to eat this one (so to speak)... OPS or the Crew(s)

I’m just a noob aviation fan, but I would think the plane that was going to takeoff didn’t stop soon enough and protruded into the runway? What’s the opposite of stopping short?

Oh yeah the landing plane might not have stayed on the center line.?

Keep learning. Both planes were on taxiways not runways. Check out the audio clip by VAS aviation on YouTube. You will hear the instructions from the controller could have been better and he did not notice one of the pilots gave an incorrect read-back. You'll hear him say lane 13 instead of lane 12.

We're just reaping what we sow. Decades, now, of failing to properly mold young people and prepare them for the real world all while allowing employees to dictate their own lackadaisical work ethics results in a myriad of poor performance incidents. Many, many more to come...

The comma after 'decades' is redundant.

Neither comma is necessary, but this is an aviation space, not an English lesson. If the point is clear, fuggedaboutit
