Just goes to show you that lightning doesn't always strike the highest object. If so, it would have hit the tower. So glad the worker didn't die.

Correct, it will always take the path of least resistance. Also interesting to note is that the bolt flashes it sends out feeder lines searching for the least resistant path and when it finds one, the electrical discharge then comes from the ground up to make the connection.

But this aircraft was on the ground. He's lucky to be alive, but he may have lingering injuries that are delayed in appearance.

Given the rarity of such strikes, he shouldn't worry about another.

I'd bet that an airport weather warning had been called with lightning within 5 and they should have had the ramp sterilized...but just a hunch.

yikes! several years back I remember being at work when one of the mechanics on the ramp was struck by lightening..he was knocked out but was ok..now most airports /airlines have a lightening detector in the ramp and mechanics offices, and if any is detected nearby, they will not go out onto the ramp..there are cases of "out of the blue" strikes with storms not imminent however such as an an incident close to where I live, where a young man on a golf course was struck,in seemingly good weather..he almost died...
