This is a much better article. thanks for posting BP... Note in that article it says"

"India's media claim, that last Saturday, October 12th, a Boeing 787-800 performing flight AI-803, registration VT-ANA, arrived with a panel missing between the main gear struts, covering the heat exchangers, size about 3 square meters (32 square feet) and quote the airline and DGCA confirming the incident. The aircraft is said to have been grounded for repairs and to resume service on Wednesday (Oct 16th) after a replacement planel had been taken off VT-ANO."

Make particular note "covering the heat exchangers". This panel is in no way structural, and latched into place and hinges down. Chances are some mechanic was servicing the ACM or something and did not latch it correctly, opened in flight and popped off the hinges.

This article is good information, but it is too early to blame this on a plane when it was most likely an ill trained mechanic.

Horrible fake pseudo air analysis. The panel is not structural. It exists to improve aerodynamic flow and save fuel.

But the panel had multiple points of attachment, literally dozens. Someone would've had to remove them all and forget to reattach them intentionally or accidentally. Either way that would've had to happen under Air India's operation.

is there a boundary layer in that part of the aircraft during flight? It's hard to see from the pic that without a boundary layer existing how you don't get problems with air whooshing into the open hole and loosen or rip off other parts of the plane in that area.

This does not make since... Belly panel flew off, but they made no mention of pressurization. If it was a bolt on panel that covers up something then it is not structural... The article does not say enough... Someone left out a lot of details.

Well, as the article says, some or most of these problems may be caused by airline mx themselves. Although the fleet is small, there are some airlines who have not appeared in the problem column. A big part is that the plane is under such a microscope it ain't funny.

A little caution to your statement. We do not know if this was a plane problem or a mechanics problem... Who opened that door last as was it closed IAW AMM. It was a door/panel that is opened for routine maintenance.
