(Video) F-16 dodging 6 Iraqi SAM launches

Enviado há

F-16, call sign Stroke 3, dodging 6 SAM launches during Desert Storm. This is some INTENSE footage. Skip to the 3 minute marker for the action. But I would highly recommend watching the entire thing because the launches surprise me just as much as the pilots. (www.liveleak.com) Mais...

I had the pleasure of knowing a Wild Weasel that flew in Vietnam. They did some pretty crazy stuff. He even played a recording of a mission they flew where his buddy got shot down. It was very chilling to watch his expression. You could tell it took him right back to that day. They saved a lot of lives.

That is Exactly what I was thinking while was watching. Wouldn't mind being a passenger on his plane.

"Ladies and gentlemen please turn off all electronic devices as our captain had a bad experience in Desert Storm and is liable to turn the plane inverted if he hears any high pitched radio intereference."

Unlike the movies, the pilot didn't seem to consider pointing his camera at the missle so we could see the action better.

My thinking is the pilot's focus wasn't on the camera - and thank goodness for that. Job well done!!!

Wow That WAS intense. I couldn't even keep up with the launches. The pilots were impressive- talk about well-trained and nerves of steel! Good stuff.

Well the pilots of the 747's, Cessna Citation X, Gulfstreams and Cessna 172's don't have to worrie about this, But these folks WOW, I don"t care what they said or how they said it, they still have to have nerves of STEEL to do this Job. Later down the road Now to 20 years from now they will the 747's, Cessna Citation x, Gulfstreams CPL . I know there is a lot of CPL's started in the Service and are flying now with Delta ect and small to large Charter companies. I have meet 3 or 4 of the Pilots at KANE and told me their history.

I'm quite sure that pilot spent time after debrief (if not sooner) cleaning the poop out of his poopie suit.

Does anyone know what happened to Stroke 4? I heard radio ask for them to check in several times, but no answer I could hear.

Stroke 4 was Captain Harry M. Roberts. He was shot down but managed to eject before the plane went in.

If you listen closely, I think the pilot burps and then pukes. Don't blame him.

Any Man or Wonen (I don't think Women were flying then) have the courage to get into a Jet knowing full well they may on come home, but knowing full well you are saving US Miltary who are in trouble, you'll do anything to help them.Baghdad.was really bad but US Military did a great Job both in the Air and on the Ground. Thanks for sharing. I will print the rest and read it slowly

Well, I have a hard time believing the video. When a SAM is after you, you don't go around flying at 150-250 knots (see the speed on the HUD). Also, they are out in the desert--what was being protected by six SAMs? So I'll put this into the "internet lore" category.
galatei
Tomasz Fiszer 3
Yes you do, you can't do manoeuvres at 600knots. Check G meter, it goes beyond 6G, which is pretty bad, and when you do manoeuvres like that, G is raising with speed.
