T-38 Formation Takeoff Cockpit Video
T-38s with the 2nd Fighter Training Squadron participate in Exercise Southern Strike. The units based out of Tyndall Air Force Base, Florida, conducted air to air combat training. Was at TYNDALL for most of 1953, then sent to, K6 < P'yongtaek > Korea, as a, AACS Control-Tower and GCA Controller, assigned to that , Marine-Air-Base... However B4 Leaving Florida, we often had a Low-Level Flyby of a former, North-Korean MIG-15, out of nearby EGLIN..... Stayed 14 Month's at K-6 then took my discharge back here in Boston, and Never looked back.. Was glad to be a civvie again and no-Where near Air-Traffic-Control... Ended up w/ Ma-Bell for 47 years as a Central-Office-Equipment Installer & Toll-Testman... Still like spending time watching activities at nearby, Hanscom-AFB.... As a Child here in Bedford, watched the Gov't build that Air-Base out of Low-lying farm-land, all taken by eminent domain.. VTY Joe Damery
Hi Heinz, One day at Tyndall while on Tower-Duty w/ an Expected MIG-15 -Flyby, We 3 were joined by a, Captain Blanchard, who just wanted to observe the-event Close-Up, he being an Instructor-Pilot attached to Tyndall..... He had us Standing-Easy, and was just discussing what we 4 guy's were watching... Later learned that He was the, " Doc Blanchard ", of West-Point's, " Blanchard & Davis: Mr Inside and Mr Outside ", football fame.... Both of those 2 guy's were, Heismann-Trophy winners, separated by 2 years.. Ya just never Know... Joe D.
