Trouble in the Skies

FOX Business' "Trouble in the Skies," a six month investigation of the FAA’s new hiring practices, uncovered changes that may put the nation’s flying public at risk as well as allegations that the newest air traffic control recruits had access to answers on a key test that helped them gain jobs with the FAA....FAA is totally corrupt on hiring new controller trainees and is putting "diversity" over "quality". This crazy politically correct stuff and the weak minded people who play the game are letting the rest of the world fall apart around them simply so they can keep themselves in power.

I got to agree. Nobody gives a damn about the job or far reaching effects f it. It's all about ME and money.

The undeniable truth is that the organization tasked with safety made the deliberate decision to go with PC and diversity at the cost of safety. This program has been effect since 2014. These "Off the street hires" are in the system and some controlling aircraft, albeit, not very well or safely. From the windshield view seats you can tell when there is a pro on the other end of the line as well as when there is a seat occupier that hasn't got a clue. Unfortunately, it is the later that are becoming more prevalent. It seams that the safeguards designed to weed out poor performing controllers have also been "revised" or done away with completely to protect the PC hires. The good dedicated controllers of all genders, races, and creeds that came up through the old system have got to be disheartened to see these changes also. As many have posted, its only a matter of time before the unintended but foreseeable consequences of these actions lead to tragedy.

It's sad that even when we voice our opinion in this forum, or any other for that matter, we have to tippy toe around what we really want to say lest we be branded as some sort of *****phobe, worst case the secret service comes knocking.

Yep, really hard to say what's on your mind anymore. Kinda like my Grandpa. He didn't carry real popular thoughts about FDR. He said he was walking down Main Street when he heard the news of his death. I said " Papaw, what did you say"?. He said "I didn't say anything but I sure thought a hell of a lot".

It's awful early in the morning to get into much detail but I smell some PC here, what with this diversity business and all, and at this level, must be emanating from our community organizer. A couple of good near misses or maybe one that doesn't miss may go a ways toward straightening things out. Question is, will it be too little too late.

Damn, Wayne...must be a nose problem. This reeks of PC and the Obama agenda. "Diversity" is merely a self-congratulatory excuse to overlook quality and has never been shown to improve a target organization that uses quality/skills as the principal determinant to recruit. Here we have bureaucrats (probably at political direction) who are willing to put the lives of the flying public and their aircrews at risk for what is essentially a political policy of the Administration, justified with flawed (manipulated) data.

Essentially they are ignoring the CTI graduates who have spent four years training already to recruit food stamp recipients off the street, coach them on an "examination" and put them in towers. Pity the controllers that have to work with these clowns and are expected to train them in addition to doing their own jobs.

Hopefully someone will file a FOIA demand and Congress puts the actual perpetuaters within the bureaucracy in front of the public. It really is time to start taking name in preparation for a cull of the civil service starting in January 2017.

Well, it's kinda preachin' to the choir here. Diversity is fine for some jobs but there are some jobs, actually most, that require a skillset that are not found in the average human being without some training. Our community organizer was thinking here while back about killing the requirement for weight carry in the Marine's crucible until he found out that it wasn't discriminatory, that is was to see if one could carry a wounded marine out of a battle zone.

They aren't qualified to be trained Preach. Ergo, they will never get it! Coming to the airline of your choice soon. Used to say I'll take the train. no Mas.

Yea, this is just the FAA. Where are the Airlines on all this?

Hiding under their desks. The various pilots unions are the ones that need to step, threaten job action and file multiple lawsuits in a friendly venue. They need to be all over Congress, not just the responsible committee but every member who flies or has flown. There are lots of them there on both sides of the aisle. A champion like Martha McSally (ex Colonel and pilot) would go a long way to getting it done.

10-4. I'm really wondering about requirements for the airlines. The have controllers too, mostly at their hubs.

My # can't say serial number triple 7 buddy at AA has some interesting comments on current hiring practices. I'm talking about pilots here Preach. PC is the rule. Just look for the old white guys in traditional roles and they are disappearing as fast as Lake Michigan ice in May.

In that case the FAA rules will protect the public and the jobs for those that would otherwise be overlooked by skin color, gender etc. Most flight schools don't take food stamps and certainly the need for 1500 hours (ex military less will require hiring who is available and qualified. For Obama this becomes the Law of Unintended Consequences for he cannot get up and say white guys need 1500 hours, blacks, LGBT, illegal aliens etc only 250.

Oh, he could. Whether he would or not is the question. He hasn't got the balls for standing up overseas but he doesn't mind a bit kissing the ass of those who might vote

Obviously you haven't been presented with the new copilot who claimed he had 300 hours in a LRJet but couldn't close the door! It's called P51 or parker pen time, and it exists.

Sounds a whole lot like "affirmative action" from the sixties. That put a whole lot of people in jobs they couldn't do properly strictly because of skin color or gender OR both. Lol

Ain't that what diversity is Jimbo?

That and any other "under represented minority" in the eyes of the left. Religion can be added and now immigration status. Automatically excluded are white males for all affirmative actions to correct real or perceived injustice.

That exclusion didn't sit real well with me when I was looking for a job after returning from Vietnam. That sealed the deal for me on lefties. Never looked back.

One day the NTSB will issue a report on this issue...but sadly only after a major accident occurs as a result.
