Very cool. I love that there is a place for a coffee dispenser behind the co-pilot's seat

Seems like it should be behind the captains seat. Everybody knows the captain doesn't get his own coffee.

Tablemaker

I didn't know where the nickname came from, and I found this listing site that you'all might appreciate:
http://web.mit.edu/btyung/www/nickname.html

I don't understand the reference to 'tablemaker' though.

Perhaps it's to do with its payload, and its destructive power, as it could make any surface - "flat" as a table.
But again, there are no examples of that, and nicknames are usually coming from the pilot's experience with a plane.

Twenty years since I sat in that cockpit ! Thanks for a walk down memory lane! Oh the memories and stories of "the early years!" :-)

This was a million dollar tour for this retired arm chair aviator. Thank you very much.
I liked the separate throttles. The swing wing control was a HOOT!... and open the A/R door is a PULL of a lever. Where is the potty?

The nickname, "BONE" came from it's designation of B-1, or B-ONE: BONE

I oggled every inch of this composite shot. Being a half-arsed photog I appreciate this as a form of exquisite art. Well done.

I know we don't want these guys getting too comfortable up there, seeing as they need to be extremely alert etc, but those seats would give anybody a backache! Surely that's not the best level of comfort the pilots can expect? But an excellent squawk, Dan.

Those are ejection seats and what you see is as comfortable as it gets..

A Bone buried its self in a field about 20mi north of my house years ago. The AF cleaned up every scrap. The entire crew ejected safely. Never heard what the deal was.

I had the opportunity to sit in one of these years ago at an airshow in 1994 and it was cool, to say the least. Great picture, although it unfortunately does not show just how long the glareshield is.

I hope everyone sees WALLACE24 comments. That is truly a classic!
To tell you the truth, I had to email a friend to find out what all that BONE stuff was all about a few years ago.
I've refueled them back to the tests of the B1A in 1975, but, never was stationed around them!

Awesome looking cockpit, but as a former Air Force Maintainer, we would never allow our flight decks to get that dirty or dusty.

It appears to be a museum display; maybe they dust it after every flight.

Very cool! if you just go to nmus.afvirtualtour.com, you can get the same stuff from a lot of aircraft and positions in those aircraft. Now that I've found that I have to rate this very, VERY cool!

We've been talking about the B-1's moniker as opposed to it's official name, Lancer. I think this other names originate in the officer's club after a few rounds and humor prevails. When I went to the list of nicknames, I found the euphamism for the F-111 - the Triple Threat. What, you might ask did that come from? Here's an answer: it could bomb you; it could shoot you; and if all else failed, it could fall on you.

Will be interesting to see all those student pilots flying around Class C airports, along with the airliners, to get their required 3 takeoffs and landings at a towered field.

Very cool! Looks like shower curtain hooks behind the crew. What are they for?

The B1B has four crew-- the offensive and defensive operators sit back there somewhere. I suspect the curtains keep their areas glare-free during flight.
