House votes to cut TSA’s budget by $270 million
The Republican-controlled House approved legislation Thursday that would cut funding for transportation security officers, the men and women on the front line of aviation safety. The 219 to 204 vote approved cutting the Transportation Security Administration’s budget by $270 million, according to Democrats and union leaders. Rather than cutting the screening workforce by 5,000 employees (that will surely result in longer lines), it seems like they could reduce capital expenses that are widely unpopular, like the MWS/BS machines they started deploying.
@dbaker your plan would work BUT I am sure that Chertoff's company (that sells the machines) has a much better contract with the TSA than the screeners do. Hell, they could cut the entire TSA budget and he'd still get paid.
Defunding waste??
They are definately not the front line, if i remember one certain napolitano lady said that the traveling public was the front line... lol
Finally the Republicans are doing a great job - they made sure the TSA doesn't have enough money to rape people. (Let's hope they get rid of the backscatters and the sexists and make more lines so it goes much faster)
They could do better with an even lower number of agents if they just had some basic standards for hiring!
