What a gorgeous bird! Fantastic capture. Thanks for sharing.
Does anyone know how many of this rare creatures are left in airworthy state?

From Wikipedia, "According to the Smithsonian Channel episode of Mighty Planes Martin Mars, only one Martin Mars is now flying."

As a kid in middle school back in the 40s, I remember this plane @ the Glenn L. Martin airport in Middle River Maryland.& it amazies me to see it still flying in the year 2017. Someone knew what they were doing when they built this bird..

An impressive aircraft. In 1947, my Navy father took me on a tour of a Navy Mars at Alameda Naval Air Station. Spent time in the cockpit with the pilot. Even after all these years, I am still in awe of this great aircraft.

Many years ago I used to live on Vancouver Island and would often see two of these Martin Mars water bombers when they were kept in Port Alberni. I was never able to capture a photo of them quite as beautifully as you have here. Well done!

The 'Coulson Mars' is the last of its breed and is out of service today, awaiting sale.

History here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martin_JRM_Mars

Today, Hawaii Mars II remains the only airworthy example of it’s type in the world. The opportunity to purchase and preserve a unique part of aviation history is now available for the discerning buyer, or donor.
