My very first flight on 8th, may in 1958 from Berlin to Hanover was in such a plane. I have that flight in my mind like a movie.

They don't keep it hangared. It sits out in the weather year round.

One of these took me to Fort Polk, LA in 1966. Landed in the dark and began a very hot summer; not a vacation.

Beautiful! Note that the passenger door is on the 'right' side of the aircraft - an option at the time.

Isn’t She Lovely…..

You can tell it's a genuine AA ship: Doors are on the starboard side, center cockpit window post features a rounded shape, and it was powered by leaky Wright engines before the Pratt and Whitney's took over. I was F/O on N400D, the AA Flagship Rhode Island around 1970.

"NC17334 is the oldest DC-3 still flying today"

If any airplane has a soul, this one surely has.

I was privileged to fly on the last in service RCAF Dak. from Sioux Lookout to North Bay Ontario. The flight covered part of Lake Superior east bound...what a way to see this beautiful part of Canada...just lumbering along in the bright summer sunshine.

Flew Allegheny Airlines DC3 from Erie, PA to Newark Airport in 1956. Very exciting for a ten-year-old. Newark to Erie was on a Martin 202.

Boeing tried to rename it the "Boeing DC-3" when Boeing bought Mac-Dac.
Even most Boeing employees said it was a dumb idea.

We Flew around the caribbean on these wonderful birds- St. Croix/St.Thomas/Antigua/ among other islands back in the late 60's. Caribair based in San Juan Puerto was the flight service.

Veteran, Northeast Airlines flyer. New Bedford, MA to Idlewild, NY 1964

A few years ago I was fortunate to get a seat on an ex-Ansett Airways aircraft partaking in a "Dawn Patrol" Battle of Britain commemorative flight over Melbourne and around Port Philip Bay, in formation with a couple of T-6 Harvards. Magic!

My dad had connections with Morrison-Knudsen Boise. They did work for him. They bought several C-47s and flew one between Boeing Field to Anchorage. We flew that route several times. in the early 1950's. In the later 1960's Cordova Airlines flew between Anchorage and Soldotna. They called it a bread run. It literally was a bread run. On one combi flight the cargo net came loose and cases of bread fell into the pax area. We passengers dutifully got out of our seats, re-stowed the bread, secured the cargo net and were back in our seats for the Soldotna landing.
