Way before my time, but devoured WWII hardware knowledge as a kid; weren't these called the C-47 Dakota when dressed up in military garb? I thought there were also some minor modifications from the civilian DC-3 version....

@Mark; basiclly yes. The astrodome on the roof behind the cockpit was never on any DC-3
