The pilot was obviously having a rather difficult time seeing his cockpit instruments as he was departing directly toward the late morning sun. The man in the right seat does not appear to have the sun shining fully on his face.

Nice catch, Gary!

Ditto to Greg's comment!

Did you ever think that the F/O might be flying the airplane!?

Greg and Gavin ... Hi again, guys, and TY. Robert ... Perhaps you are right. When they taxied past me on Charlie T/way the F/O was looking at a book and he waved to me so I guess I didn't give a whole bunch of thought toward the possibility that he (the F/O) may have been flying the plane when it took off. I think I only made my comments about the sun in the pilot's eyes as a bit of trivia regarding the scene in the picture. Apparently, by the exclamation mark you included at the end of your sentence, this is NOT a trivial matter and you are at least slightly upset that I just assumed the pilot was the one flying. I did not mean to upset you or anyone to such an extent, and I sincerely apologize to all who I may have irritated. You certainly could be correct and I was foolish to have made such an important, and possibly erroneous, assumption.

Excellent pîcture GARY, you kow !!may be the pilot wanted to do a full IMC departure (as in the simultor) … Im joking..

Serge ... I know you were joking but over many years I've actually seen a couple of aircraft depart here with the pilot's window covered over with a shade or a large piece of paper. Of course, on those few instances, the copilot was probably performing the takeoff but I did wonder about it when I saw it. (Waving to you ....)
Chris .... Howdy and Thanks. (Thumbs up .....)

Thumbs up to you Gary and a Howdy from down in SYD.
