NTSB: Pilot Error Caused Fatal Jet Crash

The captain of a Beechcraft 390 Premier failed to follow the correct procedures for an anti-skid failure, resulting in a fiery crash that killed five passengers, the NTSB said in its final report on Tuesday. The jet was returning to Thomson-McDuffie County Airport, in Thomson, Georgia, on February 20, 2013, when it failed to slow down after touchdown. The captain initiated a go-around. Had the pilot done his job and went by the POH /Checklist we would not have had a crash. End of story. Says the NTSB.

Two things:
#1 - " While Beechcraft does not publish a procedure for a go-around after touchdown"
Is that common? One would think there would be a procedure for such a situation. That surprised me.

#2 - Are you kidding me? The power company put up utility poles and nobody thought to see if they would interfere with the airport.

Reference #2: That's not what happened. The airport has alternate takeoff minimums published specifically due to the powerlines and other obstacles in the vicinity of the airport. It is the pilot's responsibility to be familiar with the arrival airport's departure procedures in the event that a go around must occur when the aircraft is beyond the published missed approach point on an instrument approach. Following the published departure procedure is the only way to ensure terrain and obstacle clearance should this be the case.

Well, he was going around anyway and if he had retracted the lift dump, he'd have been OK on that part, but if the anti skid was for a fact on, he did not have enough runway length to land and should have diverted. Moot point since he never got around.
