LAX Ranked Near Worst In Passenger Satisfaction; John Wayne Named Best Large Airport

COSTA MESA (CBSLA) — Los Angeles International Airport, the second-busiest in the nation, ranked near dead last among 19 mega airports in a study released Thursday, while Orange County's John Wayne Airport topped the large airport list.

In the "Mega Airport" category, LAX ranked No. 17 in the JD Power survey, which measures traveler satisfaction based on responses from 34,695 travelers, who evaluated terminal facilities, airport accessibility, security check, baggage claim, check-in/baggage check, food, and beverage and retail.

The low ranking for Los Angeles International Airport comes months after the construction of a $1.6 billion terminal began earlier this year, the addition of high-end stores and eateries, and an automated people mover that
will take travelers to and from a centralized car rental location.

Orlando International Airport ranked the highest in satisfaction among mega airports, with a score of 778, followed by Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport at 767, and McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas
ranked third at 765. LAX's score was 712.

Orange County fared much better.

John Wayne Airport's score of 796 was the best among large airports, topping 795 for Tampa International Airport at and Dallas Love Field at 790. San Diego International Airport came in eighth place with a score of 757.

Another California airport ranked among the best medium airports – Sacramento International Airport - while Ontario ranked 10th and Burbank came in at No. 13.
