Great shot of one of the new Spartans. Where was he enroute from/to that he needed to refuel at MEEKA in remote WA? Maybe out of Darwin YPDN heading for Perth YPPH and the forecast for Perth turned pearshaped??? Last time I was in Meekatharra was in a 1979 model C414A and could not make it nonstop from Perth to Mount Newman YNWN due to adverse weather in the Pilbara. Fuel is expensive in Meeka but it is also very good insurance...

Hi Robert you are correct my typo in a rush.
Chris the aircraft had been involved with gravel runway ps out Shark Bay on the previous day.
Fueled at Meekatharra heading for Eucla to do some landings on the highway which was to be temporary closed. Flight was delay 2 hours at YMEK due to poor weather at Eucla. Great crew even got a cockpit shot which I havent published here

Thanks cdsm! That's great that the Spartan is finding her own niche. I doubt they would commit the stretched C130J fleet to be landing on roads. That capability could come in very handy in future civil emergencies for medevacs...

There are several "landing sites" designated on the road across the nullabour. This exercise also included the RFDS as mentioned on the GWN7 news last night. Your correct, the main used is medivac, the last time the Eucla highway "landing strip" was used was in 2015. Regards Geoff
